Palm Cove/Clifton Beach boundary

THE suburb of Palm Cove consists of Buchan Point, Ocean Edge Estate, Palm Cove Proper, the land between Veivers Rd and Argentea Palm Cove, Argentea Palm Cove including Argentea Beach Estate, Seascape Palm Cove, Island View Estate, and Paradise Point Estate.
Following queries in the press recently about the boundary, Cr Sno Bonneau said that the boundaries between Ellis Beach, Palm Cove, and Clifton Beach were gazetted by the Department of Natural Resources in 2001.
"There have been no changes since that time," he said.
For a street reference, see Map 1 in the telephone book which is almost exactly double the scale of the DNR map shown at right.
The boundary between Palm Cove and Clifton Beach east of the highway, i.e. between Argentea Palm Cove and Clifton Beach is a line from the highway to the northern ends of existing Linden St, Osterland St, and Gibson Close, dipping south to include the old caravan park site, and then north to the end of existing Upolu Esplanade.

Argentea Beach Estate sets new price benchmark

ONE block sold for $1.4 million in March, another for the same amount, and a third last month, the sale price of which is still confidential, developers Thakral have anounced.
All three blocks, only 600 sqm in size and on the beachfront in Argentea Beach Estate, have set a record figure for their size, Development Manager Jeff Kahler said.
Argentea Palm Cove is the 60 hectares of land which Thakral bought from Daikyo. Argentea Beach Estate is a small gated section of Argentea Palm Cove on the south-east corner where it meets the boundary of Clifton Beach at Upolu Esplanade.
Mr Kahler said the exclusive estate consisted of seven beachfront allotments and seven dry land blocks.
"We expect the remaining blocks to sell quickly once marketing begins about the end of May," he said.
Mr Kahler said the figure of $1.4 million was a record for a 600 sq m residential block in Cairns.

Stingers gone but not forgotten

STINGER nets were removed from Palm Cove Beach in mid May.
Surf Lifesaving spokesman Grant Small said several weeks' testing ensured the jellyfish were no longer present.
"However beachgoers should swim during the patrol hours and continue to take protective measures such as wearing stinger suits," he said.

We live in scary times

"Have a nice fright,"the shop assistant said to Terebra St's Bertil Nillson when he bought some duty free before boarding the plane for Japan. The shop assistant was of course Japanese.
Fortunately Bertil, an ex-professor of English, knew exactly what he meant.
"Japanese have a hard time pronouncing the letter l" he said.
"But don't laugh too loud : they have a letter which we can't pronounce without going into a spasm."

How we compare with other suburbs

PALM COVE PEOPLE have fewer than average houses, "an extremely high" level of flats and units, a lower than average level of home ownership and, ironically, higher than average incomes, education levels, and professional people.
So said council statistics comparing us with other suburbs.
The council said Palm Cove was "one of the more exclusive residential areas in the city."
We must like it here because we also have a lower average rate of travel to work by car and higher rates of walking.
Our information came from the City Library with help from a friendly librarian.

No decision on Foley Rd

The application to build eleven houses high on the Macalister Range will not be considered until replies have been received from Main Roads and other authorities, council officers have advised.
The agenda of meeting which will deal with this application will appear on the council's web site about one week before the meeting.
We will advise you of the result.
